Bushey resident Dave Knight will be holding 10-hour walking football marathon on Saturday, September 12 to raise money for important causes.
Over the past eight years, Dave has run walking football sessions. Speaking to BusheyNews, Dave said: “Walking football is so much more than simply a slower version of football. It is an incredibly inclusive activity that brings people together who might otherwise never share a football pitch. It gives people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to be active, socialise, make friends and feel part of something.”
The marathon is raising money for Children with Cancer UK and Bushey & Oxhey FC. The event has so far raised £2,800, split between the two charities.
Local businesses supported the charity event, sponsoring the marathon and donating raffle prizes.
On the generosity from businesses, Dave told reporters today: “The response from the local business community has been encouraging. Business sponsorship and raffle prize donations have been amazing, and the generosity and enthusiasm I’ve received allowed the event to become something much bigger than I originally intended.
“It has been brilliant to see businesses getting behind something that combines grassroots sport, community, fundraising and two causes that are important to me.”
