CHARITY CHAMPION: Superstar Brownie Anna raises over £5k for Ukraine with run

A Chorleywood girl with family in Ukraine has managed to raise an incredible £5,675 for the country’s humanitarian appeal with a 10k run.

Inspired by fellow Brownies and Girl Guide, Mia, Gigi and Maggie, who we featured in last month’s CHORLEYWOODnews, Anna completed the run-on March 20, fulfilling the guiding credo of helping people and doing your best.

Anna said: “I wanted to support my aunts and cousins in Ukraine, mum was really sad as her home town was one of the first to be bombed. We didn’t know what to do.

“Then my mum heard of Mia, Gigi and Maggie’s charity run on the Brownie WhatsApp group, and we thought we would do it too.

“I enjoyed the run as many of my friends were with me. My mum also ran with me all the way so that was great too. It was great fun.”

Anna’s mum Tanya also spoke about the effect of the war on her family.

“All my sisters and their family had been displaced following the bombings. They didn’t want to leave Ukraine as their husbands, fathers and sons are still there but so many families stories are different.

“The war is not over, and the suffering continues. So, I am very proud Anna did what she did. And the Brownies were a big part of Anna’s decision to run.”
