Chalfont St Peter residents recently marked the official opening of the Hub building in the village, new home of the Gold Hill Baptist Church.

After 229 years, on the weekend of September 25-26,  the Gold Hill Baptist Church moved their home from Gold Hill Common and returned near to where the church was started in 1774.

Over Saturday, around 1400 people from the village and local area were shown around the new facility and treated to a warm welcome by the church family.

One resident of the village said: “You’ve built exactly what the village needed, but I hadn’t realised we needed it until I came today.”

In the two Sunday morning gatherings, the church gave thanks to God for the building and honoured those who had been part of the project.

The vision of the building is to be a Hub of community life in the Heart of the village and also a home for the Gold Hill Baptist Church family. A Hub-Heart and Home.

Stephen Walker-Williams, Pastor Team Leader at the Church said: “We believe that Jesus wants to see this community flourish and people transformed by Him and His love. Building and opening the Hub is a way that we can help see the village continue to thrive.”

James Simmons, Community Life Pastor at the Church, has been one of the key leaders overseeing the project. He said: “I am so grateful to everyone involved in making this idea become a reality. Having grown up in the village it is great to see it continue to develop and thrive and I look forward to welcoming many people to the hub.”

The building is already living out the vision, with various groups ranging from dance to circuit training and wellbeing using different rooms around the facility, in addition to the church’s groups like the popular Senior’s Day and Children and Youth groups relaunched in the Hub.
