Ruby, a resident at a Bushey retirement housing complex, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
On Monday, November 27, friends and family gathered together in the main social space of Moat View Court to enjoy food and drinks, socialise, and celebrate the incredible milestone.
After a toast to her century of life and blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, Ruby, who was born and bred in West Ham and is an avid snooker fan, spoke to Bushey News about the occasion and how it felt to reach 100 years of age.
She said: “It feels very good! I’ve been alright health-wise for pretty much all of my life, because I do still take care of myself, eat properly, and things like that.
“I feel so excited to have this, but in another way, I am quite sad because I do have a lot of friends who aren’t here who’ve long gone.”
When asked about her favourite memories from her many decades alive, she said: “When my friends threw me this party! But also, when I got married, back in 1943.”
