CAT KILLER: Garston family’s cat killed in resident’s living room by dangerous dog

A Garston family has been left “distraught” after their cat was killed in a dog attack.

Frank, a sandy-coloured Persian belonging to the Brown family, was killed on Sunday, September 8, allegedly by their neighbour’s dog.

Speaking to Garston News, owner Paul Brown explained that his neighbour’s boyfriend moved into the property bordering the back of his home on Harris Road a few months ago, and brought with him a Japanese Akita. The dog reportedly spends all day outside, tied up with a rope.

On the fateful day Frank was in the neighbour’s garden, the dog broke loose and chased the cat into neighbour Vivian Tree’s house.

Paul said: “The dog chased the cat into the living room and absolutely destroyed it.

He said: “The police couldn’t be less interested. They said that because it’s only killing other animals, that is it not a matter they will deal with. ”

Paul remarked that had this attack been perpetrated by an XL Bully, the dog would have been “killed that evening”.

He added that he has two young children living at his address and fears what could have happened.

He said: “I have an 18-month-old baby and a three year old and they lay on the floor when getting their nappies changed. He [the dog] could rip them to shreds.”

Paul has been surprised by the social media reaction following the incident, with many Garston residents commenting that it is not the dog’s fault but the owners’.

He asks: “When are people going to stop making excuses for dangerous dogs? Even if it is the owner’s fault, the dog needs to go.”

Speaking to Garston News, a spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Police were called at around 7.52pm on Sunday, September 8, following reports of a dog being dangerously out of control. It is reported that a Japanese Akita entered a house on Harris Road, Watford, and killed a cat. The dog then escaped through the garden. We understand the distress this has caused to the cat’s owner and we are doing all we can to identify the owner of the dog and locate the animal.

“Anyone with information is asked to report it online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/75004/24. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.

“We are also aware of other alleged incidents involving this dog and again would ask anyone with information to get in touch.”
