An application to convert the former Cat & Fiddle pub in Radlett into a residential dwelling and to construct a further seven dwellings was approved by the Hertsmere Planning Committee yesterday (Monday, March 11).
Members of the committee found that the proposed project would not harm the heritage associated with the building. Whilst a number of modern extensions to the Grade II listed building would be demolished, the 19th century edifice would be preserved.
Secondly, councillors found that the redevelopment project would not significantly harm green belt land. Instead, it would make use of partially developed land to create a large house and seven further three-bedroom homes.
Bar one abstention, all councillors voted in favour of approving the application submitted by Cat & Fiddle Ltd.
The Cat & Fiddle pub had been up for sale since it closed in 2019. A previous application to convert the building into a GP surgery was rejected following criticism from a heritage officer.
