CAT-ASTROPHE: Rickmansworth rescue centre appeals for help as forced closure looms

Published on: 26th September 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The owner of an animal rescue centre in Rickmansworth fears for the future of the creatures she cares for after she was given notice to leave the current premises.

Since 2020, Precious Paws Cat Rescue, based on Springwell Lane, has provided a temporary residence for felines whose owners are away, as well as helping to rehome stray cats.

However, all of this has been put in jeopardy. Operator Jacqui Schafer received a notice from her landlords Affinity Water, allegedly giving the rescue centre until December to leave the site as the water supplier is looking to repossess the premises for its own work purposes.

Speaking to Ricky News about the situation, Jacqui said: “There was always the possibility this could happen, but we’d hoped that we’d get longer. If this happened, we’d have to close.

“I don’t know where all of the rescue cats would go, all of the others are full, and we can’t find any new potential premises nearby. I’m so disappointed; I feel like a lot of people have been let down.

“As for the cattery, some of our customers have been with me for nearly 30 years. There’s not a lot of catteries nearby either. I’ve told customers that if we can’t find anywhere, I’ll go mobile, but I’ll have no place for the rescues.

“If we could find alternative premises, or at the very least get some more fosterers, then that would be amazing.”

Precious Paws are now actively looking for fosterers and new premises. Anyone who can help is urged to contact them as soon as possible.
