Three girls’ teams from Berkhamsted Cricket Club have triumphed after making to the finals of the Hertfordshire county league.

The three teams from Berkhamsted Cricket Club succeeded in the Herts Junior League County Finals with the Under 13 Girls taking home the top spot.

Taking on Harpenden in the finals on July 17, the team made up of Martha, Zoe, Maya, Daisy, Marianne, Zoya, Lola, Freya and Eleanor, put in a supberb performance to be crowned county champions.

This was not the end of the club’s success with the Under 11’s and Under 15’s also making it to the final and narrowly missing out on victory.

Speaking to BERKHAMSTEDNEWS, Mark Lewarne, head of junior cricket at the club, said: “We are really proud of all the teams, it’s not all about winning for us. It’s about the fact that more and more girls want to play cricket and they’re having fun doing it.”

Mark added that the club pride themselves on championing girls’ cricket and welcome girls from the ages of seven through to 18.

He said: “The number of girls at the club is something that has grown in the past few years. We had a big influx of new girls in 2018/19 and that carried out growing through COVID.

“Now we have more than 120 girls playing at the club. We are keen to be seen as a centre of excellence for girls’ cricket. We also have a women’s team that play in the home counties women premier league.”
