The team at KINGSnews were saddened to hear of the passing of Edith Jackson, a previous employee at Kings Langley Secondary School, who passed away on Wednesday, May 7.
Edith was born in Kennington on November 6, 1927. During the Second World War, she was evacuated to Tring and then relocated to Kings Langley.
Edith met her husband, John Jackson, who had grown up in Primrose Hill in the village, and they married in Kings Langley in 1949.
In the following years, they welcomed daughter Helen and son Geoffrey.
Edith worked at the British Railways Board, before spending time at Cooks Garage on the site of Saddlers Walk.
While witnessing the many changes in the village, Edith also watched generations of residents grow during her time working at Kings Langley Secondary School.
She joined the school in 1945 as a lab technician and later as school secretary. She worked there for the next 30 years.
After retiring, Edith returned to the school as a lunchtime supervisor. In 2018, when she was 91, Edith was invited back to the school as a guest for a special reunion.
John, who was a village councillor, ran the youth club with Edith for a number of years and the couple were active members of Kings Langley Wine Makers and walking and dancing groups.
Speaking to KINGSnews, her granddaughter shared: “Nan was independent, generous, kind-hearted, determined, glamourous, caring and funny… all of the things I’d hope to be if I’m ever lucky enough to become a grandparent.”
Edith passed away aged 97. She leaves behind her two children, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Very special lady x
