RMBI Home Prince Michael of Kent Court in Watford celebrated not one, but two 100th Birthdays last week.
Residents Douglas Hawes and Vera Coffin (pictured) were born just a day apart in September 1918, shortly before the end of the First World War. They were thrilled to each receive an official letter of birthday congratulations from Her Majesty The Queen.
Douglas celebrated with a party at the home attended by over 50 of his family and friends, including his ten year old first born great grandson, with whom he shares a birthday.
Douglas, who is an ardent Watford FC supporter, said: “It was wonderful turning 100. I’ve had a good life. Family is definitely the most important thing for me.”
Vera, who has been a Tottenham Hotspur fan for 93 years, received a surprise congratulations letter from Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino. She also enjoyed a family party organised by the home’s staff.
Vera said: “I feel no different now to when I was 50 and my passion for Tottenham hasn’t changed since I was an eight year old girl!”
Activities Coordinator, Tracy Lydon, said: “It was such a privilege to celebrate the 100th Birthdays of Douglas and Vera. We hosted a special party for each of them so that their families could celebrate with them. A 100th birthday is such a massive milestone and we’re just glad everyone had a great time.”
