A new wellbeing gym at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre is on its way for sufferers of the disease.
Designed to rehabilitate patients at the treatment facility on their journey to recover, the gym, financed by their charitable fund, will be open to all attending, including staff.
It will provide physiotherapy on a one-to-one basis for patients, as well as clinic appointments and occupational therapy.
Activities such as yoga and Pilates will also be offered in group sessions, as will support programmes for those struggling with issues such as breathing, weight management and fatigue.
There is considerable documentation that suggests physiotherapy-led exercise for people going through treatment for cancer, helping to reduce the progression of the disease, prevent reoccurrence of the illness and alleviate some of its more upsetting symptoms, such as pain and lymphoedema.
The new gym and rehab centre is set to open in February this year.
