This is a question that Alexandre Fischer, a Christian Science Lecturer based in Paris, will tackle during a public talk on Sunday, November 12. Alexandre, who was trained as an attorney, says that his love for spiritual matters and especially Christian Science grew over the years. He said: “I loved the law; I bought my first legal text book when I was 12 years old and that was my favourite bedtime reading. So naturally I became a lawyer. I did litigation. But after a few years I felt something was lacking – I can see now that it was a spiritual dimension to my work. “I recall that one day, I dealt with an employment abuse case and my client was in tears on the phone, so I told her that I would win a large payment for her through our litigation efforts. Of course, that did not stop her tears. What really needed to be dealt with was her anger, her feeling hurt and disrespected but, as a lawyer, it was not my job to deal with those things. “Knowing something of this spiritual system of healing (Christian Science), I realised it could have helped the woman to deal with her situation and find complete peace. A few years later, I became a full-time professional Christian Science practitioner. It is such a rewarding activity to see so much harmony and healing coming into people’s lives.” Mary Baker Eddy who founded Christian Science in the 19th century explained these fundamental concepts and showed how they could be put into practice in her book “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”. The healing effects of applying these ideas will be explored in Alexandre’s talk. Christian Science follows the teachings of Jesus, as recorded in the Bible and explained in Mary Baker Eddy’s book Science and Health. It is a worldwide Christian movement. (It has no connection with Scientology, with which it is sometimes confused.) Local Christian Scientists have been meeting in Watford for over a century, opening the present church in 1930. Watford’s Christian Scientists are delighted to welcome Alexandre to come and share his ideas and inspiration with the whole community on Sunday, November 12 at 3pm at 53 Cassiobury Drive, Watford, WD17 3AD. Everyone is welcome and car parking is available. For more information, visit www.christiansciencewatford.org.uk
