CAMPAIGN CONTINUES: Mayor of London candidate visits Watford to discuss transport links

The Conservative candidate for next year’s Mayor of London elections, Shaun Bailey, visited Watford Station yesterday and told WATFORDnews that it’s vital it stays open.

The London mayoral election was due to take place this year but has been postponed until May 6, 2021.

Shaun, who visited the station on Tuesday morning, said: “The outskirts of London provide the vibrancy and connectivity that makes the city so great.

“TfL has been mismanaged for four years, with Sadiq Khan wasting £9.56bn of taxpayers money, and the city and surrounding towns are suffering greatly as a result.

“We need to get London moving. We simply cannot afford for more stations to close. That’s why as Mayor, I will fix the black hole left in TfL by Sadiq Khan and provide better support to keep our much valued stations open.”

Dean Russell MP, who was also present, said: “Having Shaun elected as the Mayor of London next year would make a massive difference to Watford, it would be great to have an ally for the town and he’s doing a great job challenging Sadiq Khan’s decisions in London.

“Ultimately, having someone who understands the Watford residents, the commuters and the impact it would have on London’s economy and jobs is absolutely critical.

“I’ve got to give a big thank you to Shaun for coming here today. I’ve spoken to him many times and he’s always been a fantastic ambassador for Watford, Watfordians and for London.”
