BUY A PUB A PINT: Berkhamsted resident starts Crowdfunder to support independent pubs

A Berkhamsted resident has started a new Crowdfunder to help local independent pubs survive the pandemic.

Simon Parker started the #BuyaPubaPint campaign earlier this month, offering residents the opportunity to directly give back to the pubs which have served them for so many years.

Simon, an entrepreneur who moved to Berkhamsted earlier this year, explained: “I’m in the midst of shutting a business down because the pandemic has killed it – it would be such a shame to see the same thing happen to our beloved pubs.

“That’s why I started this campaign, which sees 100 per cent of donated funds go straight to them.

“I do understand why the COVID restrictions are in place and fully agree with them, but it very realistically could lead to the closure of so many of these pubs, so buying them a pint seems like the right thing to do.

“They’re not just important on a personal level; they are also vital to the economy and help provide jobs for a lot of young people at the start of their careers.”

Simon’s vision extends beyond just Berkhamsted – if you’re not from the area but would like to support your local pubs as well, you can create your very own #BuyaPubaPint Crowdfunder.

Simon said: “We want to spread this as wide as possible and have #BuyaPubaPint benefit all communities, as the pandemic is a country-wide problem for pubs.”

The campaign has raised £1,075 of a £6,000 target at the time of writing, and Simon said he’s grateful for all the support the Crowdfunder has had so far.

“I also really need to thank my neighbour, Jen Browne, and Dan Twine from The Lamb for their help – they’ve been instrumental in getting this off the ground.”

Berkhamsted residents have until December 18 to contribute.
