BUSINESSES BEWARE: Croxley council warns of scam email sent to business owners

Published on: 21st September 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Croxley Green Parish Council (CGPC) is warning local business owners about a scam email.

Specifically targeting those who are signed up to the council’s local business directory, the email tells the recipient that their business listing is set to expire in several days, and they need to renew it.

The email instructs the recipient to click on a green icon to renew their listing and update their details. It then asks for payment. Despite stating it is from the council’s Service Support Team, CGPC has confirmed that the message is not from them.

Taking to social media to explain the situation, CGPC said: “Please remain vigilant when opening emails. Check the sender’s email address and if pictures download automatically.

“Often, when signed up to subscriptions, you may have clicked to say always show images from this sender. If images haven’t shown straight away, it could have come from a scammer.

“Ask if you are ever unsure, by contacting the company/business/friend/family if they have sent you an email and create a very strong password on your online accounts.”
