Christmas is the season of giving, and this year marks the tenth anniversary of Babs Rock’s annual Christmas collection.
Since 2014, Pinner resident Babs has helped to collect thousands of toys, gifts and supplies for various places, including Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and CAHMS. This year, Babs helped to collect and donate gifts and supplies to a women’s refuge in Hillingdon.
Speaking to Pinner news, Babs said: “It all started ten years ago, when my daughter who was seven at the time was admitted to hospital over Christmas for surgery after shutting her finger in the door.
“A kind lady did a similar thing [toy collection] and came round to give her a present. It was so nice! The more you do it, the more you see that people need these things, so we moved on from hospitals.”
This year, Babs launched an Amazon Wishlist full of books, wash bags, shower gels, baby toys, walkie-talkies and more. She collected 250 items to donate to the refuge centre, which supports women across Northwood and Hillingdon.
She continued: “It’s amazing. I know how hard it is to work during Christmas and these nurses are amazing! They could be with their families but they’re out looking for our kids.”
