Shoppers at the Harlequin shopping centre were met with unexpected surprises last month when small, handmade gifts were left around the centre to mark Blue Monday.
The thoughtful tokens were created by service members at local charity Guideposts Trust, with the aim of spreading positivity and offering moments of joy to passers-by.
Shoppers who came across the gifts on Monday, January 19, were encouraged to take them home or pass them on, helping to share kindness throughout the community.
According to Guideposts, Blue Monday is frequently described as “the saddest day of the year” and while the theory behind it has since been widely debunked, January can be a challenging time for many.
Shorter days, colder weather and conditions such as seasonal affective disorder can impact mental wellbeing.
Speaking to WATFORDnews, support worker Carole said: “Little acts of kindness can make a big difference, especially during the winter months when mental health can be difficult. We hope they will bring some brightness and joy to those who need it.”
