Police have confirmed that a suspicious device which was found and destroyed in a ‘controlled explosion’ in Watford on Saturday (September 20) was a firework.
Specialists from the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) conducted a controlled explosion on King George V Playing Field on (Saturday, September 20).
Hertfordshire Police were called at around 8.40am to reports of a suspicious device, found in a premises between Vicarage Road and The Hornets.
Residents and businesses were evacuated with a 100m cordon in place as a precaution.
Inspector Curren said: “Officers attended and set up a cordon, evacuating nearby homes and businesses. Other emergency services are attending as a precaution.”
The area has since been made clear.
