BRASS MONKEY: Radlett coffee shop owner ‘humbled’ as community rallies after flooding

Published on: 2nd October 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The owner of a popular coffee shop in Radlett has spoken of how moved he is after the community came to his aid.

Brass Monkey on Watling Street was left in a terrible state after a fault in the waterworks of an upstairs flat on Sunday, September 15, caused serious flooding.

Speaking to Radlett News, owner Warren Lipman said: “We got a call from our overnight bakery delivery to come quick as there had been a leak. We arrived to find absolute devastation. It took three hours for the water people to turn it off, but it was a miracle our coffee machine survived.”

Warren and his team, who spent the rest of the day trying to clean up, were left shocked when many members of the Radlett community decided to pitch in to help.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, Brass Monkey is now back in business, though on a smaller scale, serving takeaway coffee and toasties to customers.

Warren said: “We’ve all just been so touched; the community has rallied. We had people waving us down in the street asking if they could help. Twenty-four hours later, we were back open.

“We’ve been so humbled; people were turning up all day. We’re not fully functional just yet, but we’ll get there.”

Once Brass Monkey is fully open once again, they are planning a major community day to say thank you to everyone who helped them.
