BRAND NEW: Residents enjoy homes in Hemel Hempstead

Residents enjoy brand new homes in Hemel Hempstead, delivered by Watford Community Housing.

Residents have been sharing their joy over their new homes at Opal Court, Goldcroft – a new development of 11 much-needed affordable homes, delivered by Watford Community Housing with support from Dacorum Borough Council.

Representatives from the two organisations, along with key partners including contractor Jarvis, were recently joined by some of the new residents for the formal opening of Opal Court, which is made up of two one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom homes.

One of the new occupants, was amongst those who attended the celebration alongside her children. She said: “This is like a breath of fresh air, it’s so lovely. Obviously, it’s brand new and I like the fact it isn’t open plan, so I now have a massive kitchen and front room, and it just makes the flat itself feel so much bigger.”

Their new home has the added bonus of a small private garden, as well as backing onto a public park, giving the whole family the chance to enjoy outdoor spaces.

The resident said: “The best part for me is the garden at the back. Not a lot of flats have that and it’s really nice to have, especially for the children. I’m very happy.”

Now complete, Opal Court was the first partnership scheme initiated between Watford Community Housing and Dacorum Borough Council, with Dacorum providing grant subsidy of £580,281 towards the project.

The two organisations are working together to deliver affordable housing in the area, with a Section 106 agreement ensuring the ongoing provision of affordable housing at Opal Court – where all 11 homes have been let to applicants on Dacorum’s housing waiting list.

Tina Barnard, Watford Community Housing’s Chief Executive said: “We are thrilled to have completed this development. Watford Community Housing is committed to working closely with Dacorum Borough Council to deliver desperately needed homes that give local people a chance to live in a high-quality home at a price they can afford. Opal Court is a great example of this and we hope the new residents will be very happy in their new homes.”

Councillor Margaret Griffiths, Deputy Leader of Dacorum Borough Council, said: “Dacorum Borough Council are delighted to be working in partnership with Watford Community Housing to provide high quality affordable housing for our residents.”
