Officers from Northwood’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have been helping to tackle shoplifting from a local Waitrose.
Several instances of thieves attempting to take items, predominantly alcoholic drinks, from the shop on Green Lane have been reported on the SNT’s social media pages.
The first incident took place on Tuesday, September 17, with members of the public and supermarket staff intervening after three men were spotted trying to leave the shop with several bags filled with alcohol.
Thanks to community support, the police were able to detain the individuals and arrest them on shoplifting charges.
The force later provided an update on their X account, stating: “The three shoplifters we arrested at Waitrose have all been charged and remanded into custody for court. We are also applying for Criminal Behaviour Orders via the Crown Prosecution Service.”
Only two days later, on Thursday, September 19, another would-be thief was caught at the same supermarket attempting to steal alcoholic drinks. He was stopped before he could steal anything.
A spokesperson for Northwood SNT said: “We will carry on with our proactive patrols to deter the thieves that come to Northwood.”
