Bushey Chabad, a local Jewish community organisation, held an online fundraiser in June to help propel them into the post-COVID future and raised a huge amount of £30,000 in 36 hours.
The Centre has been active over the lockdown period with many creative programmes for local families and the wider community, including the Lockdown Activities in a Box series with over 70 local children joining weekly, the Trikes for Kids lending programme to help children stuck at home cope with the pressure, and the massive Drive-In Chanukah Fire Show Celebration at the Bushey Academy with over 1000 people joining.
Rabbi Yosef Sharfstein, director at Bushey Chabad said: “As we are entering the Post COVID era, we wanted to be ready to serve the community in the fullest capacity possible, so we decided to launch an online fundraiser, we had no clue how it would turn out.”
The online fundraiser lasted for 36 hours and raised over £30,000, with hundreds of locals chipping in.
Resident Laura Garder said: “I think people are starting to look towards the future, and this was an opportunity for them to express their optimism.”
Bushey Chabad plans to use the funds to expand its programmes and help the community adjust to life after COVID.
