Residents have finally been able to return to their homes following a 50 metre cordon being put in place in Berkhamsted, after a suspected historical explosive device was brought to the fire station.
Police arrived on the scene around 3:30 this afternoon after the discovery at the scene in Castle Street, with the cordon remaining in place for another two hours, with the situation finally resolving at 5:30pm thanks to the combined efforts of Herts Police and Herts Fire Service, as well as the bomb squad.
People were told to avoid the area, with residents who’s homes were inside the restricted area being offered a place to stay and wait by Berkhamsted Boys’ School.
Any further information as to the nature of the device is currently unknown.
