BLOOMING LOVELY: Flowers, fun and community spirit light up village halls in Croxley and Sarratt

Forget Chelsea Flower Show – it’s in Croxley that the real floral drama unfolded this September.

Two much-loved events, the Croxley Green Annual Home & Produce Show and the Sarratt Horticultural Society Autumn Show, burst into life with more marrows, dahlias, and community spirit than you could pack into a greenhouse.

In Croxley, the 104th annual show broke records with 83 exhibitors and a whopping 500 entries. Highlights included the youngest competitor ever at just 17 months old decorating biscuits, and Mason Parker’s star-quality icing skills.

The new Lego category delighted children and adults alike, while Dave Tait’s colossal 33kg marrow deserved its sack barrow entrance.

Meanwhile, over in Sarratt, the long hot summer gave gardeners plenty to gossip about while the Village Hall brimmed with colour and creativity.

Ian McClelland’s roses were the talk of the village, while Sarah Altman and Steven Booth shared the Dahlia Trophy in dazzling style.

Steven also went on to win multiple cups, including the coveted Morton Neal Trophy. Cookery queen Julie Mansi triumphed, Daphne Clapinson wowed with floral art, and newcomers like Ron Higgs shone with spectacular garlic and shallots.

Both shows proved that while prizes sparkle, it’s the laughter, raffles, and shared cake that make these gatherings truly bloom.
