Former Garston resident Aider Gower celebrated her 106th birthday in style, with her care home pulling out the stops to host a fabulous party.
Residents, staff and family members attended Brunswick Court Care Home in Watford to celebrate Aider’s momentous birthday.
Aider was born on September 14, 1918, just a month shy of the end of the First World War.
She moved to the care home in February 2023, however she was previously a long-term resident of Kingswood Estate in Garston.
Staff decorated the care home with an abundance of balloons and streamers and provided hats for the party-goers.
Aider had a fantastic day surrounded by her family and friends, and enjoyed a wonderful spread of sandwiches, quiches, crisps, cupcakes, sausage rolls and cake.
Speaking to GARSTONnews, a spokesperson for the care home said: “Family and friends came and there was music and a big party.”
This marks the oldest birthday to ever be celebrated at the care home.
Aider said that the secret to a long life is to look after yourself, as she has never smoked and doesn’t drink.
