Macmillan World Biggest Coffee MorningStaff, patients and visitors at Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans hospitals raised over £1,000 in support of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last week.

The event, held on September 26, is run by the national charity Macmillan Cancer Support and saw thousands of people across the country take time out for a coffee and a slice of cake to raise money to help people living with cancer. Watford Hospital’s Macmillan’s Cancer Information and Support Centre raised a fantastic £450, selling a wide range of tasty cakes and other goodies. Other teams from across our hospitals took part, including the acute admissions unit (AAU) at Watford Hospital.  The sexual health team joined in too and together they raised a stonking £670, making the total amount raised over £1,000. Tracey Carter, Chief Nurse, said: “The coffee mornings which took place across our hospitals were well attended and I would like to personally thank all those people – including patients, visitors and staff – who took the time out of their busy diaries to get involved and to donate to such a great cause. “Last year, our patients, staff and visitors helped to raise a superb £710 for the charity so we are delighted to have added more to the fantastic fundraising this time round. “The money raised will help to fund Macmillan Cancer Support’s vital cancer services across west Hertfordshire and further afield.  These include specialist cancer nurses, a nurse-run support line and financial advice and support for patients with cancer.  Every penny raised will make a vital difference as Macmillan Cancer Support aims to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.”
