Abbots Langley-based Evergreen FC are hoping to build on a mixed start to the season after narrowly missing out on promotion last term.
At the time of writing, Evergreen sit 13th in the ACERBIS Division One Herts Senior Counties League table, with 10 points in their first 12 games.
Despite a tough start in the league, the team has also picked up big wins, including an impressive 0-5 away win over Buntingford Town Reserves in the Hertfordshire FA Saturday Intermediate Cup on Saturday, November 9.
The two sides had drawn 0-0 in the league the weekend before, making the result even more impressive.
Evergreen’s vice chairman and first team manager Gordon Wallis told ABBOTSnews: “We got quite a few injuries in pre-season, so we had to adapt. Over the last few weeks, we’ve had a more settled side. We’re still attracting new players.
“The standard of the division is far superior to last year.”
In terms of the club’s infrastructure, Evergreen are in good stead, with a three-star All England accreditation, and paths to senior football for men’s and women’s teams.
One of the most important aspects of the team, Gordon stressed, was the ‘one club’ mentality, with the men’s reserves and first team mixed together and progression to the first team for the young reserves side encouraged.
Gordon added: “We have two senior squads but I don’t treat it like that; at the bar, it’s everyone together. I treat my teams like a family.”
