A local band has beat thousands of others to reach the grand final of the New Blood competition.
Last year, singer/songwriter and guitarist Finbar, who is from Pinner, decided to turn his guitar melodies into an EP. He enlisted the help of mutual friend Jacob to join him on the drums.
Passion ignited into success, as the duo decided to evolve their masterpiece into a band, The Cellar Doors. They recruited Marco on bass guitar, Jack on keyboard and backing vocals, and Dom on lead guitar.
After forming in early September last year, the band have already caught attention in the music industry.
Pinnernews chatted to Finbar about the band’s music.
He shared: “Everyone is quite in tune with each other when we are performing because the songs are very interlinked themselves.
“Each member is playing their own part and listens to what the others are doing and it’s quite rewarding knowing it sounds good on stage.”
The Cellar Doors were selected for the final of the New Blood competition in Croydon on Saturday, May 17.
Thousands of bands entered the competition in the hopes of reaching the final and battling it out for a coveted slot at the Isle of Wight Festival.
Inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Foo Fighters, the rock band spent their 20-minute set showing off some of their own songs written by Finbar, including Queen of Them All and That Feeling.
Described as being “on track to becoming one of the best new rock bands emerging in London”, the group won the online vote from fans to get to the final of the competition.
Finbar said: “Everyone we met on the night was really nice and made us want to play even better.
“It was a great experience, and it was our biggest venue yet with around 400 people there.”
Though Southeast London band The Rizz claimed the prize, The Cellar Doors’ journey is only just beginning.
In July, the band are taking to a vintage analogue recording studio in Hackney to record some new songs for their next EP. You can stay up to date with the band at www.shorturl.at/Z1Ycf
