Residents have expressed frustration at the recent enforcement of contamination policies for bin collections.
Reportedly, several residents’ bins have not been collected over the past few weeks due to waste not being correctly allocated into refuse, recycling, and garden bins.
Speaking to RADLETTnews, Aldenham West councillor Caroline Clapper said: “While we fully understand the importance of improving recycling standards and tackling contamination, the recent overly strict approach has led to widespread missed collections, causing real frustration for residents.”
A spokesperson for Hertsmere Borough Council said: “There has been no change in the council’s policy about what can be accepted as recycling. It is important that we control contamination at the kerbside to minimise potential diversion to landfill.
“Some of the more common items that are put in with recycling that can lead to bins being rejected are nappies, plastic film, and greasy pizza boxes.”
