BIG BOOST: Northwood rising musical theatre star wins funding from award scheme

Published on: 4th January 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood teenager with a bright future ahead of her has been given funding to pursue her dreams.

Zara Khan, 13, is one of two recipients of the Tashan Daniel Award. The prize of up to £2,000 is given annually by Hillingdon Council in memory of talented young athlete Tashan Daniel, who was tragically killed in an unprovoked attack at Hillingdon station in 2019.

Zara is a budding musical theatre performer, having landed several roles in her school productions and shows run by her Northwood-based drama group, Future Stars.

She has also performed in a school choir in the prestigious venue of St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, and with a Bright Stars dance ensemble at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sadly, Zara has recently had to take a step back from performing due to illness in her family and has struggled to continue her singing lessons.

But both Zara and her mum Seema say that receiving the award has been a turning point.

The support will help her to further develop her own creative talents, along with offering opportunities for her to act as a mentor to younger children.

Zara said: “I am extremely grateful for this award because it will enable me to continue to build my skills in dramatic arts.

“I hope to honour Tashan’s legacy by excelling in my field, not only to perform on stage but also to use this skill as a drama therapist to support children through challenging times.”
