BIG BIRTHDAY: Pinner rugby club marks 90th anniversary with huge win

Pinner Rugby Football Club (PRFC) celebrated their 90th birthday last month with a members’ dinner and derby match.

PRFC was formed back in 1934 in The Queen’s Head pub, marking this year as the 90th anniversary of its foundation, as well as the 70th anniversary of its move to Shaftesbury Playing Field.

The club’s history is full of interesting twists and turns, including the clubhouse burning down in 2001 before it was reopened in October 2003 by English rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio OBE.

Across the last 90 years, the club has grown into a pillar of the community. It now boasts a substantial first team, and even a mini rugby section consisting of five teams aged between U6 and U14, compiling 75 youth players.

To celebrate the occasion, the club held a lunch for past and present members on Saturday, October 12, before playing their local rivals Watford. The celebrations continued as the London side finished on top with a score of 38-6.

A spokesperson for the club told Pinnernews: “We are a proud club but, like many clubs, we face a constant battle for survival, whether it be due to costs or simply low numbers of players. We hope these celebrations will work to revitalise the club.”
