Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Peter is hosting a gladiatorial contest over the bank holiday weekend.
The contest will see renowned Roman re-enactors Britannia displaying their terrifying fighting skills, elaborate costumes and authentic weaponry.
Britannia is one of the oldest and largest historical re-enacting groups in the UK. Their expertise in the Roman era is in high demand for TV and film and they have previously featured in Gladiator and Horrible Histories.
Visitors will be encouraged to cheer for their favourite warriors and decide who lives and who dies at the end of each contest. There will also be the opportunity to chat to gladiators and take selfies with them between battles.
Helen Light, general manager at COAM, said: “We are delighted to welcome the gladiators back to the museum. The fights are thrillingly realistic, and each warrior is a mine of information about the period of the Roman occupation of Britain – knowledge they will enthusiastically share for museum visitors. It’s great fun for all the family just like it was back in 250 AD.”
The event starts from 10am on Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27. Advance booking is advised. Visit www.coam.org.uk to find out more.
