BATMAN IN BUSHEY: Dark Knight visits town during lockdown

Herts Inclusive Theatre have been producing homemade videos featuring Lego Batman in order to raise awareness for the charity during the uncertain times of the coronavirus pandemic.

Kelly Stevens, who is the husband of Caroline Stevens who has run the charity for around 11 years, has been putting the Lego costume of Batman to good use in order to create content for the charity’s social media pages.

The pair, along with their five-year-old daughter, live in Bushey and have come together to create videos such as ‘Hide and Seek with Batman’, ‘Home schooling with Batman’ and ‘Batman does P.E. with Joe Wicks’.

Speaking to BusheyNews, Kelly said: “The idea started before lockdown, we had the materials for it lying around and thought that we should put them to good use. Many charities are facing financial hardship during these times, so we thought what could we do?

“We started it for a bit of fun, hoping the videos would make people smile and allow them to keep checking up on Herts Inclusive’s social media pages.”

Kelly is glad that the costume is getting some use, and even hopes to one day complete the London Marathon whilst dressed up as Batman.

He continued: “The costume is a big one, and I’m happy its now getting some use. It’s just taking up space otherwise.

“I think the most fun video to make was the hide and seek sketch. Batman always boasts about being the best at hiding and my daughter plays Robin in the videos. The whole family is getting together to create the content.”

Caroline, the director at Herts Inclusive Theatre said: “Things are looking brighter for Herts Inclusive Theatre. The charity has raised enough to keep going for the next two months, this has enabled them to put together a programme of online activities for their disabled and disadvantaged participants which launches next week.

“The company is down from three staff to just one, and the focus now is delivering activities to support isolated vulnerable people, and fundraising to ensure the charity is able to operate when this is all over.”

The videos with Batman can be found on the charity’s Facebook page, and you can also support Herts Inclusive Theatre by donating to their JustGiving page by searching ‘Herts Inclusive Theatre’.
