BANK CLOSURE: Amersham’s HSBC to shut raising concerns about distance from nearest branch

Published on: 2nd April 2022   |   By: Christina Pantelly   |   Category: Uncategorized

HSBC announced the closure of its Amersham branch, and concerns are raised as following the closure, the administration of customer accounts will be moved to the Berkhamsted branch 5.5miles away from Amersham.

The Amersham-on-the-Hill HSBC branch is set for closure on August 23 this year.

HSBC’s closure is the latest in a string of business closures in Amersham in recent years. The town’s Santander branch closed in June 2019, and the TSB branch followed a year later, in June.

Amersham today has two physical banks — Natwest and Barclays – and one post office.

HSBC announced further transformation of its branch network, which will see it close 69 branches as it continues to evolve its branch approach, with branch formats tailored for each local community.

HSBC spokesperson said: “Retaining a sustainable Branch Network is extremely important to us and we need to ensure it is fit for the future. Therefore, after careful evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close this branch.”

Commenting on the planned closure, MP for Chesham and Amersham, Sarah Green said: “I am deeply concerned to learn that our Amersham-On-The-Hill branch is one of the 69 HSBC branches to be closed this year. This will make accessing in-person banking even more challenging.”
