AVOID THE AREA: Protesters gather nearby overturned lorry carrying thousands of chickens near St Albans

A number of protesters have gathered near the scene of an overturned lorry which is carrying thousands of chickens near Junction 21A for St Albans. 

Around 15 to 20 protesters are at the scene and are outraged over the treatment of the chickens who have been trapped since the crash shortly before 10am this morning (September 30).

Police were called shortly before 10amfollowing a road traffic collision on the A405 north orbital road, near junction 21 of the M25. 

Protesters are claiming that around 10,000 chickens are trapped in the lorry and chickens are “dead, injured or suffocating”.

Herts Police have confirmed a 35-year-old woman from Watford has been arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and assaulting police.

She remains in police custody at this time.

Road closures are currently in place and are expected to remain for several hours.
