A Northwood schoolgirls’ artistic talent has landed her in the top three of a drawing competition which marked the 20th anniversary of Waterstones Children’s Laureate.

Fatema, a primary school student at Northwood College for Girls, placed third in the competition which saw pupils from across the country having a go at designing their dream reading corners.

Out of the hundreds of entries, Fatema and the other two winners won some incredible prizes.

Lauren Child, author, judged the entries and said Fatema’s design showed she has no limits on her imagination.

She said: “This is so carefully considered. Fatema has gone to such effort to explain in picture form how she would create a reading corner. I particularly love that she has set no limits on her imagination and has made sure to put every detail in place. It’s fabulous.”

Both her college and headteacher congratulated her on the amazing design.

Zara Hubble, head said: “Another stunning drawing from F-ZM. Such a talented young lady.”

The school said: “Congratulations Fatema – we are so thrilled for you. Thank you #ChildrensLaureate and @Booktrust.”

Winners were able to choose a reading corner set worth up to £1,500 from BookSpace, and they also received a selection of up to 30 books from the wonderful Laureates themselves and two copies of Flights of Fancy, a book released to mark the 20th anniversary.
