ART THERAPY: ‘Winning would mean the world’ to Northwood charity up for prestigious award

Published on: 11th January 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Northwood-based charity Arts for Life Project has been named as a finalist in the Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

Arts for Life aims to support challenged young people through the creative arts, offering a space at its base in Forge House, Northwood, for them to come together and create their own art.

Co-founder and director Beth Gevell spoke to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews about the charity’s nomination in the Charity/Social Enterprise of the Year category.

She said: “From humble beginnings of just four young people in my kitchen in Pinner, our charity has moved to a studio in Northwood and grown exponentially and now supports over 170 young people as they navigate their challenges.

“This incredible journey has been possible thanks to an amazing team by my side. Together, we are going from strength to strength.

“Winning this award would mean the world to us, not just for our team, but for the young people who consider our studio their ‘home away from home’. It would be a testament to eight years of unwavering dedication and hard work.

“Young people who once struggled to even step through our doors due to severe anxiety are now flourishing, returning to school, college, or work, and some even joining our team.

“We see those with ASD, ADHD, OCD, PDA and other challenges not only learning to understand their diagnoses, but thriving in their personal talents. We believe these young people have the potential to be the best in their fields, focusing on their strengths and working to achieve their dreams. Supporting them is a privilege, and we are so proud of the difference we are making together.”
