Hemel Hempstead is no stranger to Hollywood filming crews taking over its streets, and viewers of a hit new Apple TV series may spot some familiar streets and backdrops.
Masters of the Air aired weekly throughout January and February, telling the story of the enlisted men of the Mighty Eighth Air Force of the United States Army. It boasts a star-studded cast, including Austin Butler, Callum Turner and Barry Keoghan.
Now the show is being aired, a resident has shared backstage photos of the filming that took place more than two years ago.
These photos have been shared by David Newland, a Hemel resident who snapped some shots of the crew in September 2021 after they transformed the Old Town for filming.
Dacorum Borough Council posted on social media: “Scenes were filmed at Bovingdon Airfield Studios and in Hemel Hempstead’s Old Town High Street – creating a real buzz for our community and transforming the High Street’s quaint shopfronts into bombed-out streets and bomb shelters!
“Hemel’s Old Town is often described as ‘the prettiest High Street in Hertfordshire’, and it’s a popular filming location.”
