Amazon’s Shannia urges people to apply for apprenticeship

Published on: 8th March 2019   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

An apprentice at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead is calling on people to pursue the career they have always wanted by applying for an apprenticeship during National Apprenticeship Week 2019.

Shannia Daley, 19, is an infrastructure technician apprentice at Amazon on Boundary Way.

Shannia started her apprenticeship in 2018 and is working towards an infrastructure technician qualification after a year of training and study with Amazon and QA Training. Her goal is to become a network engineer.

Shannia is one of 22 apprentices currently working at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead. This week, Amazon is announcing that it will create a further 1,000 new apprenticeships in fulfilment centres and development centres across the UK, including 21 new apprenticeships in Hemel Hempstead.

Shannia is also encouraging her fellow Amazon employees to pursue qualifications and training in their dream career by applying for the Amazon Apprenticeship Programme.

The apprentices will join Amazon’s world-class Apprenticeship Programme, where the courses typically run on average for three years and are fully funded by Amazon and mix theory and work-based training.

Shannia said: “I’ve always wanted to work in a tech role, for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy the opportunity for technology to blend creativity with learning and this made the Amazon Apprenticeship Programme the perfect platform for me.

“Every day is different, and that’s what I love about it. In any given day, I can be replacing equipment, solving inbound and outbound problems, setting up computers and running general checks. It’s great.”

For anyone thinking of applying for a place on the Amazon Apprenticeship Programme, Shannia has some advice.

She added: “Don’t be afraid to try and don’t be afraid that you won’t fit in. Lots of places will ask for ten years of experience for some roles, but at Amazon they’re willing to train you and you can join the company at any level. There are lots of opportunities to succeed here – go for it!”

During National Apprenticeship Week 2019, Amazon has announced the creation of 1,000 new apprenticeships for new and existing employees in fulfilment centres and development centres across the country.

Starting on March 4, opportunities will be available to join apprenticeship schemes in Operations, IT and Engineering.

Amazon’s Apprenticeship schemes are designed to suit candidates with a range of experience, from those with life skills to school leavers who are 18+ with GCSEs or A-levels.*
