A local resident who overcame bowel cancer has completed a 33-mile walk to thank staff at Watford General Hospital for helping her through her treatment.
WATFORDnews spoke to Linda as she prepared for her walk, where she said that her journey had been a “blessing in disguise”, as it has allowed her to give back to the charity that saved her life.
Linda Pottinger’s epic fundraising walk took place on Wednesday, March 6, taking over 10 hours to complete. The challenge included walking to every hospital that helped her during her journey to recovery including Watford General, Mount Vernon, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City hospitals, and OSD Healthcare.
Linda prepared for her challenge by walking more than 550 miles in training, for 150 hours, to build up her strength.
The trek began at 6 am from Watford General, and Linda was even joined by West Herts staff, including the lead surgeon who treated her, Mr Drostan Cheetham, on the return leg to Watford General for the last four miles.
Alison Rosen, CEO at West Herts Hospitals Charity said: “Linda has shown great resilience and bravery, undertaking this epic fundraising walk just eight months after major surgery. Linda’s dedication and fundraising efforts are truly remarkable.
“Her inspiring journey and commitment to giving back to the hospital that cared for her are a testament to our amazing healthcare heroes. We are deeply thankful for Linda’s support and determination.”
