An artist from Amersham is “immensely proud” after her work was selected to appear in the Royal Academy of Arts’ summer showcase.

Alice Salczynska, 24, who has always had a passion for art, was selected out of 16,000 entrants to have her work appear in the famous London gallery.

A recent architecture graduate, Alice is spending the year creating art before pursuing a career in architecture.

Speaking to AmershamNews, Alice said she had always been creative and began drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil.

She said: “I used to sit behind the sofa and draw houses on the wall; looking back, that’s probably where it all stemmed from.

“I’ve been going to the [Royal Academy of Arts] exhibition since I was 16; I’ve always admired the work and thought it would be phenomenal if my work was included alongside some of the names exhibited there.”

Alice added that she didn’t tell anyone she had applied at first as she wasn’t hopeful she would get through to the next stage.

She added: “It’s been on my bucket list of things to do it. To even get through to the first stage, for me it was like winning the whole thing because of the number of people who entered and it was my first time entering into any exhibition.”

Alice also appeared on The One Show as part of a feature following her journey to being selected for the showcase.

The exhibition is running at the gallery at Burlington House in Piccadilly until August 20.
