A pair of talented athletes from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club’s Masters team recently completed an open water 5k swim.
Matt Rafiq-Craske and Hilary Coulson ended the Open Water season by swimming The Dock2Dock 5K event at the Royal Albert Docks on Saturday, September 14.
The route allowed the athletes to swim between the “magical urban setting of London’s Royal Docks”, enjoying views of the historical cranes, Canary Wharf and the O2. This was the ninth edition of the event and saw swimmers as young as 12 take on the challenge.
A spokesperson for the club spoke to Hemel News and said: “With a water temp of 16c, it was a lot cooler than last year however, both swam new personal bests (PB). Matt’s time improved by eight minutes and secured 5th place whilst Hilary’s time improved by three minutes, securing 1st place in their respective age groups.
“Training for both Hilary and Matt continues throughout the winter, as EA are offering cold water swimming in the outdoor pool. Well done Hilary and Matt. What an achievement!”
