The ‘Look Up Together’ crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for the fireworks display in St Albans this year is nearing its target with over half the amount raised so far.
Due to COVID-19, it is not safe to have thousands of people in Verulamium Park for a ticketed event as has happened in previous years.
It is estimated that around 55,000 people will be able to see the fireworks from their home due to the strategically positioned firing sites.
Paul Dean, chairman of the cathedral’s fireworks committee, said: “We were inspired by New York’s approach to this year’s 4 July celebrations, with Macy’s organising aerial displays that could be seen without people needing to leave their homes.”
If the crowdfunding campaign is successful, St Albans will have the only known public display in the UK.
If the target is reached the firework display will take place on Saturday, November 7 at 6pm.
