All 700 dog waste bins in Hillingdon are to be removed as the council looks to save £160,000 a year.
The local authority said dog owners should use existing litter bins or take waste home for disposal, with £60,000 of the savings set to fund extra street cleaning.
The plans will affect both Northwood and Ruislip, where the removal of the bins has raised concerns about existing waste collection arrangements.
On its website, Ruislip Residents’ Association said some dog bins already overflowed under the current collection service and criticised the lack of a published list or map showing alternative bins.
The council’s report acknowledged the risk of increased dog fouling but said it could be managed through signs, communications and enforcement, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
About 14.5 tonnes of dog waste collected each month will instead go into general waste, which the council said its existing bins could accommodate.
The decision was approved without a formal public consultation, prompting criticism from the residents’ association.
Stickers reading “I can take dog waste too” will be placed on litter bins in parks and dog walking areas before the removals begin in phases.
