Details and dates for the annual Steam Gala at Ruislip Lido Railway (RLR) have been announced, including a special visiting attraction.
Organisers of the gala, which will take place from May 4 to 6, have revealed that their own steam train, the beloved Mad Bess, will be joined by the Sherpa steam train from the miniature railway in Fairbourne, Wales.
Sherpa has had many years of service, having begun its life in France and travelled to a number of different locations before finally coming to Fairbourne in 1984.
A spokesperson for the RLR said: “This will be Sherpa’s first visit to the lido. We can’t wait to welcome the team from Fairbourne and see Sherpa out and about on the line. “
During the event, visitors will be able to see all of the railway’s locomotives on display. Young guests are also invited to become a ‘driver for a fiver’, offering them hands-on experience as a driver of a 750-metre stretch of rail.
Tickets for the Steam Gala will go on sale in the coming weeks at their website.
