A community-focused group has raised fears over more potential large-scale development plans on land separating Abbots Langley, Kings Langley, and Bedmond that could escalate drastically in the years to come.
The Abbots Langley Association (ALA) stated that many in the community appear unaware of the landowner’s long-term intentions, with plans published that would develop the area strategically, including proposals for around 2,000 new homes.
A spokesperson for ALA said: “This level of over-development will change Abbots Langley forever.”
Currently, the central government has allocated space for 1,125 homes, but local campaigners warn this may represent only the first phase of a much larger project. Estimates suggest that if fully realised, the development could bring an additional 4,800 residents and 3,000 vehicles to the area, placing pressure on schools, healthcare, and other public services.
The groups highlight potential environmental consequences, warning of loss of open space and irreversible ecological damage.
Speaking to AbbotsNews, ALA member Zoe Meacock said: “We are representing the people and we are not aligned with any political party. We’re not opposed to all development, but that specific development – it’s just not sustainable for our community.”
The ALA has launched an online petition to offer the community a voice in discussions over the future of the land. Residents can sign the petition and find further information at: www.abbotslangleyassociation.co.uk/get-involved
