An 11-year-old boy who remarkably created his own business has confessed his favourite part of being an entrepreneur.
It all began for Fair Field Junior schoolboy Aryan Ford when he saw his friend’s 3D printer for the first time and wondered how the machine was able to produce such designs.
Just three months later, last Christmas, the youngster was surprised with a gift of his very own printer and gradually developed his hobby of making 3D designs into a business, called Meltd.
Aryan said: “My favourite part of this business is that I get to sell my work and spend time with my dad. I’ve always wanted to make him proud, so it feels amazing to do that.
“Last year, we discussed it and dad didn’t want to ruin the surprise, so he said we couldn’t afford a 3D printer. Then on Christmas Day, I opened a very big box and it turned out to be one.”
“Over the days of printing, my friends always came up to me saying, ‘Can I have a 3D print? We’ll pay you for it’.”
The boy’s father, Nick, is in the software development business, so he was able to teach his son how to develop his business with a website and app.
Aryan said: “My dad started teaching me how to code. We just sat down every day after school and built the app from scratch until it was amazing.”
Nick added: “He’s put a lot of hard work into it. He does everything himself. The designs, the printing, the packaging, the orders. It’s entirely his own idea.”
