PEDAL POWER: Mother daughter duo from Pinner to take on cycle challenge

A mother and daughter from Pinner are cycling from London to Paris in aid of Chorleywood-based charity Mission EmployAble.

Helene Buijs, 57, who works as an oncology nurse at Northwick Park hospital, has been encouraged in her training for the 335-mile ride by Watford Velo Club, which she joined recently.

She will be accompanied on her trip to Paris by her daughter Naomi, 25, a physiotherapist, who also worked at Northwick Park hospital until recently.

Helene is hoping to raise at least £2000 for Mission EmployAble.

She is a regular worshipper at Christ Church, Chorleywood, where she first heard about the charity, which she chose because she is concerned about the lack of employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Helene said: “I think what Mission EmployAble is doing in providing training for young adults with learning disabilities is incredible.

“I know 94 per cent of people with learning disabilities do not have paid employment and I would like to see this change.

“Naomi and I are really looking forward to making it to Paris, which will take us four days.

“It’s just a shame we can’t do it on a tandem!”

Helen Buijs and her daughter Naomi are cycling to Paris between 7 – 11 September in aid of MissionEmployAble.
