ACTION NEEDED: Calls to renovate derelict shops in Northwood left empty for years

Published on: 25th March 2023   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood resident has spoken out about the number of derelict shops on Station Approach.

Jonathan Hutchins said the shops along the stretch of road near the underground station have deteriorated over the years.

Speaking to Northwood&RuislipNews, he said: “These shops and the flats above are owned by Transport for London (TfL). Because there were plans to demolish the entire block and build many flats on the site, which includes the car park, no real maintenance has been done on the buildings for decades.

“Once again, the latest scheme for this area failed to get planning permission and the properties were left to largely decay.”

Jonathan has contacted David Simmonds CBE, MP for Northwood, Ruislip and Pinner, and suggested plans for a community art gallery.

Mr Simmonds MP said: “It’s a wonderful idea to celebrate the contribution of high-profile local people through an arts centre or gallery and I look forward to discussing the idea with constituents.”

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are aware that some retail units near Northwood station have been empty for some time. We are actively working to bring these properties back into use and we will begin to carry out improvements later this year.”
