‘ACTION-FILLED DAY’: Northwood College for Girls ‘Roman around’ through history during workshop

Published on: 29th January 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

On Tuesday, January 6, Northwood College for Girls (NWC) was transformed into a bustling Roman town as Year 3 pupils took part in a hands-on history workshop.

Many of the students dressed in Roman-style costumes and spent the day experiencing what life might have been like in ancient Rome.

Pupils learnt the history of how a small village in Italy grew to become the Roman Empire as well as hearing the story of famous warrior Boudicca.

It was this workshop which allowed pupils to apply key language and concepts they have been learning this term in a practical and interactive way.

The experience also encouraged problem-solving and investigative skills, giving students a “taste of Roman life” beyond the classroom.

Speaking to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews, a spokesperson for NWC said: “The action-filled day included playing a Roman game called Delta and pretending to be Roman Gladiators!

“Each term the girls learn about a different period of time or place and their teachers organise workshops to strengthen their learning on subjects, such as the Ancient Greeks and the Stone Age.”
